U.S. Automakers Hosting Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Meeting in Detroit

Washington, D.C– The American Automotive Policy Council – along with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) – will co-host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Automotive Dialogue in Detroit this week.

“We are very excited to host an international gathering to discuss the future of the automotive landscape,” said Governor Matt Blunt, president of the American Automotive Policy Council (AAPC), and Co-Chair of the 37th APEC Automotive Dialogue.  “We are also pleased to co-host the event in the traditional home of the US. auto industry, where some of the most innovative and groundbreaking research for EV and AV technology is being developed.  We look forward to constructive discussions on the opportunities and challenges facing auto manufacturers, their supply chain partners and their workers, as we help shape the future of mobility at home and abroad.”

The 37th APEC Automotive Dialogue will take place on May 19th  and 20th in Detroit.  The sessions in Detroit will focus on the growth and development of EV and EV battery supply chains in the APEC region, impacts of the transition to EVs on suppliers and autoworkers, and how future mobility can benefit a wide variety of populations throughout the APEC region.

The event will also feature a tour of Mcity, the world-class research & test facility for connected and automated vehicles, located on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  Mcity and the cutting-edge work being conducted there are supported by an innovative public-private partnership network that includes federal grants, direct funding from U.S.-based automakers and suppliers, as well as support from numerous auto industry stakeholders around the globe.

The American Automotive Policy Council (AAPC) represents American Automakers Ford Motor Company, General Motors Company and Stellantis. AAPC is a Washington, D.C. association representing the common public policy interests of its member companies.
