American Automakers Statement on Gina Raimondo Confirmation as Commerce Secretary

Washington, D.C. – Governor Matt Blunt, president of the American Automotive Policy Council, today issued the following statement on Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo’s confirmation as U.S. Secretary of Commerce:

“We congratulate Secretary Raimondo on her confirmation to lead the Department of Commerce.  We look forward to working with the incoming Commerce Secretary and the Biden administration to support policies that strengthen the position of American Automakers to grow our economy, create jobs and continue their global competitiveness in markets around the world.

“We urge Secretary Raimondo to quickly engage on the shortage of auto-grade semiconductor wafers by urging major producers and asking to ramp up production in order to prevent additional auto plant closures and further reductions in volume at American auto plants

“American Automakers look forward to working with the Commerce Department on addressing the semiconductor shortage and our ongoing efforts to ensure the acceptance of vehicles built to U.S. safety standards in key markets around the world.”
