ICYMI: New Report from Center for Automotive Research Details Tariffs Cost Increases for American Automakers

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Center for Automotive Research issued a new report showing American Automakers Ford, General Motors and Stellantis could see increased costs of more than $42 billion because of a 25% tariff placed on automakers.

“This in-depth study by the Center for Automotive Research demonstrates the significant cost a 25 percent tariff will have on the automotive industry. American Automakers Ford, GM, and Stellantis intend to maintain our ongoing dialogue with the administration to achieve our shared goal of increased U.S. automotive production," said Governor Matt Blunt, president of the American Automotive Policy Council.

Reuters: The study found the Detroit Three could see tariffs of nearly $5,000 for the parts they import on average for each car produced in the U.S., and about $8,600 on average for each car they import.

Detroit News: CAR estimates a total of $107.9 billion in costs from tariffs for all U.S. automakers. It expects 6.8 million vehicles would be affected annually by the tariffs at General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler parent Stellantis NV. Across the industry, that would increase to 17.7 million affected vehicles.

CNBC: The Center for Automotive Research, a Michigan-based nonprofit think tank, believes costs for automakers in the U.S. alone will increase by $107.7 billion. That includes $41.9 billion for Detroit automakers General Motors, Ford Motor and Chrysler parent Stellantis.

The American Automotive Policy Council (AAPC) represents American Automakers Ford Motor Company, General Motors Company and Stellantis. AAPC is a Washington, D.C. association representing the common public policy interests of its member companies.
