At Chrysler’s Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, eight wall-mounted precision robots spray powder onto the 2015 Chrysler 200 after it gets a topcoat as the car moves through a three-layer paint process.

Ninety-seven percent of the powder lands on the surface of the car while the remaining 3% is collected and reused.

“Whatever the over-spray is, we reclaim it, and then we clean it up and use it again,” said Faiz Yono, supervisor of Chrysler’s energy group.
